Press Release: Kuching, Sarawak-The Borneo Convention Centre (BCCK) promises to add an exciting new landscape to boost Malaysia’s growing appeal as the preferred destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions.
Overlooking a lush green forest and flanked by the majestic Sarawak River, BCCK is located on a 6 hectare waterfront, allowing delegates to bask in the ambience of nature, while being served by dedicated professionals in a world-class convention centre with state-of-the-art facilities.
The new convention centre located in Kuching, Sarawak will be officially launched by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak in a glittering ceremony on Tuesday 9pm, 2 March 2010. The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud will also be delivering a speech at the launching ceremony.
Datuk Hajjah Raziah Mahmud, the Chairman of BCCK said:”March 2, 2010, will also be the most important day for BCCK. It is the day of our Grand Opening. This will be the climax to what we have been preparing for since our soft opening on October 18, 2009.”

“Since its opening on August 2, 2009, the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching has hosted 52 events and welcomed over 30,000 delegates. Its strategic location and our commitment to exceed our clients’ expectations, among others, have made this convention centre one of the preferred venues in Asia,” he said.
It all began in 2002 when the vision of a Convention Centre in the mind of the Chief Minister of Sarawak was transferred to the architect’s drawing board. From the drawing board, began the monumental task of building the Convention Centre. 2007 and on July 4th July 4th 2009, a staff commissioning event was held to officially announce that BCCK was ready to receive events and clients.
Indeed, Borneo has long been renowned for its hospitality and BCCK aims to build upon this reputation and blaze new trails in service levels as BCCK marches into the new age of conventions .
BCCK is managed by a team of well-trained professionals with international experience and all are dedicated to delivering the most memorable convention. It boasts the ‘Great Hall’ which can house up to 5000 people at one time. The 2,793m2 pillarless hall can accommodate up to 2,100 for any banqueting function. There are 14 function rooms, a fine dining restaurant & a VIP lounge.
In addition to unparalleled levels of service standards, BCCK is poised to set new benchmarks in world-class convention facilities. The impressive attention to detail in the design elements has created a warm ‘rainforest’ ambience that will meet the sophisticated demands of global event organisers.
BCCK has a unique rainforest themed architecture, and a major feature of the centre’s design when viewed from the outside is its roof structure. The roof is shaped in the form of a ‘ririg’ leaf, a rainforest plant that plays an important role in the local indigenous cultures.
The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching or (BCCK) is located in Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia. It is the first dedicated convention and exhibition centre in Borneo. Located 8km from the city centre, it aims to organise and attract local and international concerts, events, exhibitions and conventions to Sarawak. BCCK is managed by Borneo Isthmus Development Sdn Bhd, which is a Sarawak state-owned company. It oversees all operational aspects of BCCK.
